China’s biggest online retailer, JD.com, is offering to ship a few million of its own products and services to the United States and Canada through its US-based logistics company, Express Logistics, Reuters reported.
The move is part of a push to get the US and Canada’s goods out of China, where they were once banned for use in medical or food-processing plants.
It is the latest example of how China has tried to keep up with the rapid pace of technological innovation that has seen it overtake the US as the world’s second-largest economy, said John Smee, managing director at research firm BMO Capital Markets.
“It is really a big deal,” he said in an interview.
“In the past five years, the market for logistics services in China has exploded and now JD.
Com is taking advantage of this.”
The JD., founded in 2008 by billionaire investor Bill Lee, is the largest online retailer in the world with an estimated online audience of more than 20 billion.
It also offers a wide variety of goods and services including clothing, electronics, electronics accessories, toys, and household appliances.
It is a major player in the $5 trillion (4.6 trillion) global e-commerce industry.
The company has said it is committed to investing $3 billion in logistics in the US.
It has already begun shipping goods to California, Texas and New Jersey, and has plans to ship more goods through its logistics hub in Shenzhen, where it is located.JD.com said on Wednesday that it had started shipping supplies to the US via Express Logistic.
The company said it was also making plans to bring goods to Canada.
It declined to provide details on the products it was shipping.JD has also started shipping a variety of products to Canada via Express.
It will ship some products via Express to Canada, the company said, adding that the company is currently working on getting more shipments to the province through the logistics hub.JD, founded by Lee in 2008, is known for being one of the largest internet retailers in the country.
Its products range from food, beauty, and home goods to household and travel products, according to Reuters.
Its US operations are based in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Dallas.
Its Canada operations are located in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver, and Seattle.
It also has a distribution network in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Singapore.JD is part-owned by China-based internet firm Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, which operates JD’s parent company JD.
The group is owned by billionaire businessman Wang Jianlin.
